Hypnotherapy for New Parents
The first year after a baby arrives is often described as beautiful and brutal in the same breath. Sleep is fragmented. Identity shifts. Support can be thin. Many new parents feel they are failing when they are simply under-resourced.
Clinical hypnotherapy at Norwest Wellbeing is for that layer: automatic worry, body tension, and the loop of "I should be coping." It is not a diagnosis and it is not a replacement for your GP. Book the money page parenting anxiety or start from the /parenting hub.
What new-parent hypnotherapy targets
- Persistent overwhelm and irritability
- Fear you are not a good enough parent
- Feeling without support (partner, family, or community)
- Sleep-related anxiety (yours, not only the baby's)
- The slide from baby blues into longer low mood or panic (see postnatal depression and postnatal anxiety if those fit better)
PANDA and COPE report that about 1 in 5 mothers and about 1 in 10 fathers experience perinatal anxiety and/or depression. If that is you, you are not rare, and you are not weak.
How treatment runs at Norwest
Sessions combine clinical hypnotherapy with strategic psychotherapy. Initial consultation up to 90 minutes ($300, including trance recording); returning sessions up to 60 minutes ($300). In-clinic at Norwest or Zoom Australia-wide. Rebecca Smith leads much of the perinatal / women's health work; both practitioners see parenting anxiety depending on fit.
Hypnotherapy complements (never replaces) GP, obstetric, or perinatal mental health care. Medication decisions stay with your doctor.
When hypnotherapy is not enough on its own
If you have thoughts of harming yourself or your baby, cannot function day to day, or feel unsafe, contact your GP, PANDA 1300 726 306, Lifeline 13 11 14, or 000. Then, if appropriate, hypnotherapy can sit alongside specialist care.
