Hypnotherapy for alcohol reduction

Norwest Wellbeing helps people cut back on alcohol by changing the automatic habits behind drinking, through one-to-one sessions with Paul Smith or the Norwest Method audio program.

Hypnotherapy for alcohol reduction at Norwest Wellbeing helps you cut back on drinking by changing the automatic habits that drive it: the 6 pm pour, the "just one more", the reach for a glass when stressed. Alcohol and habit cessation is one of Paul Smith's specialty areas.

Reduction, not rehab

This service is for people whose drinking has become a habit they want to shrink: not for unmanaged substance dependence, which needs specialist medical support and is outside what the clinic works with. If your body is dependent on alcohol or you're in crisis, speak to your GP or call the services listed in emergency and crisis support first.

For habitual drinkers, the problem is rarely knowledge. You know how much you're drinking and what it costs you. The pattern persists because it's automatic: certain times, places and feelings trigger the drink without a real decision being made. Hypnotherapy works at that automatic level, and the strategic psychotherapy component maps your specific loop (when, where, what feeling) so the hypnosis targets your pattern rather than a generic one.

Your options

  • One-to-one sessions. Initial consultation up to 90 minutes ($300, including an audio recording of the trance portion), returning sessions up to 60 minutes ($300). In-clinic at Norwest or via Zoom Australia-wide. Book at /appointments and choose alcohol reduction as your concern.
  • The Norwest Method: an 8-week personalised hypnotherapy audio program available for alcohol reduction ($497 up front or $67/week), written from your intake form and delivered weekly through the member portal.

Related habit work (quit smoking, quit vaping, gambling and more) is listed in conditions we work with.

What to expect

Alcohol reduction through hypnotherapy is gradual, collaborative work: no outcome is guaranteed, and engaging with your recording and between-session tasks matters. Many clients aim for a specific target (alcohol-free weekdays, two-drink limits) and your practitioner will work to the goal you set rather than imposing one.

Unsure whether sessions or the audio program fit better, or whether your situation suits reduction work at all? Book a free 15-minute callback via /appointments or phone (02) 8069 9777 for a straight answer.
