Postnatal Depression Hypnotherapy

If postnatal depression has taken the colour out of early parenting, you do not have to wait until you "feel ready." Clinical hypnotherapy can support regulation and automatic thought patterns while you stay with your GP.

Money page: /hypnotherapy/conditions/postnatal-depression. Overview: what is postnatal depression. Hub: /parenting.

What treatment targets

  • Persistent low mood, numbness, or hopelessness after birth
  • Guilt and "I am a bad parent" loops
  • Bonding that feels distant or frightening
  • Sleep stress (yours) that maintains low mood
  • Mixed anxiety and depression (common; COPE)

About 1 in 5 new mothers and 1 in 10 new fathers experience perinatal depression and/or anxiety (PANDA / COPE). Hypnotherapy is complementary. It is not a cure claim and not a substitute for assessment.

Course at Norwest Wellbeing

Rebecca Smith leads perinatal and women's health hypnotherapy. Initial consultation up to 90 minutes ($300, including trance recording); returning sessions up to 60 minutes ($300). Typically 2 to 5 returning sessions after intake, adjusted to you. In-clinic Norwest or Zoom Australia-wide.

Hypnotherapy is non-pharmacological. Breastfeeding medication questions stay with your GP. We do not give lactation medical advice.

Who it suits

People who want mind-body support alongside GP, MCH nurse, psychology, or medication. People in crisis need medical and crisis services first (PANDA 1300 726 306; Lifeline 13 11 14; 000).

If panic and worry dominate, use postnatal anxiety. If feeding fear is the centre, use breastfeeding anxiety. Fathers: paternal postnatal depression.
