How to claim a health fund rebate
Confirm cover with your fund, pay in full at your appointment, receive a tax invoice, then claim directly with your fund. There is no HICAPS in clinic.

Claiming a rebate is a four-step process: confirm your cover with your fund, attend and pay in full, receive your tax invoice, then lodge the claim directly with your fund. We don't have HICAPS in the clinic, so claims are made by you after payment, not on the spot.
Prerequisites
You need Extras cover that includes hypnotherapy. Cover varies by fund and policy level. Check /health-funds and read private health rebates if you haven't confirmed yet.
Steps
- Confirm cover with your fund before your appointment. Ask whether hypnotherapy is included on your policy, what the rebate and annual limit are, and whether they recognise your practitioner. Funds look up our practitioners by their Australian Hypnotherapists Association (AHA) association number, which is available on request and printed on invoices.
- Attend your appointment and pay in full. The full session fee is payable by you: the fund reimburses you afterwards, not us.
- Receive your tax invoice. You're given a tax invoice with the details funds require, including the AHA association number. Invoices are also always available in the member portal at /invoices. See receipts and invoices.
- Claim directly with your fund. Submit the invoice through your fund's app, website or a branch, exactly as you would for physio or dental Extras claims. The rebate is paid to you.
Troubleshooting
If your fund rejects the claim, the usual causes are a policy that doesn't include hypnotherapy at your Extras tier, an exhausted annual limit, or the fund needing the practitioner's AHA association number. Check the invoice or ask us for it. If the invoice itself is the problem, email hello@norwestwellbeing.com.au and we'll help. Remember Medicare is not involved in any of this. See Medicare and hypnotherapy.
