No referral is needed to book, but GPs can refer patients via HealthLink, Medical Objects, PDF or email. Referrals suit motivated adults and adolescents 16+.
Last reviewed 8 August 2026
You do not need a GP referral to book at Norwest Wellbeing. Anyone can book directly at /appointments or by phoning (02) 8069 9777. GPs and other health professionals who do want to refer a patient have four pathways, and we welcome those referrals.
How health professionals can refer
- HealthLink: our HealthLink identifier is norwellb.
- Medical Objects. Paul Smith: PS2153000YY; Rebecca Smith: RS2153000VG.
- Referral PDF. Complete our referral form and send it through.
- Email. Referrals@norwestwellbeing.com.au.
Who referrals suit
Referrals are appropriate for motivated adults and adolescents aged 16 and over. Clinical hypnotherapy is not suitable for every presentation: we do not accept referrals for psychosis, acute suicidality, complex personality disorders needing specialist programs, unmanaged substance dependence, or anyone currently in crisis. If a patient is in crisis, direct them to emergency services: our emergency and crisis support article lists the numbers.
Referrals and billing
A referral does not change billing. Medicare and GP Mental Health Care Plans do not cover hypnotherapy, so sessions are privately billed with or without a referral. See Medicare and hypnotherapy. Some private funds pay Extras rebates independently of any referral.
Common questions
Q: Do I have to see my doctor before booking? A: No. Book directly online at /appointments or call (02) 8069 9777: no referral, no GP visit required. See how to book an appointment.
Q: My GP wants to refer me. What should I give them? A: The pathways above: HealthLink (norwellb), Medical Objects (Paul PS2153000YY, Rebecca RS2153000VG), our referral PDF, or referrals@norwestwellbeing.com.au.
Q: Will a referral get me a Medicare rebate? A: No. Hypnotherapy isn't covered by Medicare or Mental Health Care Plans, referral or not. Private health Extras is the only rebate pathway.
Q: Can my 15-year-old be referred? A: Referrals suit adolescents 16 and over. For younger clients, a parent or guardian can book directly. Child and teen bookings are made by the parent.
