The Norwest Method — IBS

Your gut is not broken. It has just been working too hard for too long.

IBS is a disorder of the gut-brain connection, not a disease of the gut itself. That means the most effective treatment is not just what you eat or what you take — it is retraining the communication between your nervous system and your digestive system. The Norwest Method is an 8-week personalised hypnotherapy program built around the clinical evidence for exactly that.

Eight weeks. One program. Built around the specific way your IBS works.

The approach
Gut-directed hypnotherapy is one of the most evidence-supported treatments for IBS available. Your program is built from your intake form after purchase — your subtype, your triggers, your patterns, and what IBS has cost you. Nothing in it is generic.
Best for
People who have tried dietary changes and medication and found partial relief at best. People whose IBS is clearly connected to stress and anxiety but have not found a treatment that addresses both at once.
What you walk away with
A toolkit for managing symptoms in the moments they arise. Less fear about what your gut might do. And gradually, an ordinary life in which IBS is not the organising principle of every decision you make.

You might not tick every box. One might be enough to recognise yourself.

  • You plan your day around access to a toilet and feel genuine dread when that is not possible.
  • Eating out, travelling, or being away from home causes anxiety that has nothing to do with the destination.
  • You know stress makes your symptoms worse but knowing that does not seem to help.
  • You have restricted your diet significantly and still cannot predict what a good day looks like.
  • Your world has quietly shrunk around your gut, and you have started to accept that as just how things are.
  • You feel like your body is working against you, and you have stopped trusting it.

A program that adapts to your progress, not just your starting point.

  1. Complete your intake form after purchaseAfter purchase, you complete an intake form that covers your IBS subtype, your primary symptoms, your trigger contexts, your relationship with food and anxiety, and the ways IBS has changed how you live. This is the foundation the entire program is built on.
  2. Receive your personalised sessionsYour first four weekly sessions are written from your intake form. Each is a complete gut-directed hypnotherapy session delivered as high-quality audio — about 25-30 minutes for the main session and 15 minutes for the mid-week reminder. You listen in your own space, in your own time.
  3. Your week 4 Zoom check-inAt the halfway point, you join your clinical hypnotherapist for a 30-minute Zoom check-in session, included in the program price. This live session lets us see how you are going and whether we need to tweak anything in your program. Your practitioner then uses what they learn — including what has shifted with symptoms and tools — to align your final four sessions to where you actually are.
  4. Your final four sessionsSessions five through eight are written after your Zoom check-in. They are shaped by your real progress: the life areas you most want to reclaim, the symptoms that remain, and the tools that have already begun to work. The second half of the program is not a continuation. It is a response.

What's included

  • 8 personalised weekly gut-directed hypnotherapy sessions (audio, approximately 25-30 minutes each)
  • 8 mid-week reminder sessions (audio, approximately 15 minutes each) — shorter reinforcement sessions designed to keep the work active between your main sessions

  • Lifetime access to your session audio
  • Program duration: 8 weeks

Why hypnotherapy — and this format

Gut-directed hypnotherapy (GDH) is recommended as a second-line treatment for IBS in both European and North American gastroenterology guidelines. Systematic reviews consistently show 56 to 80 percent of patients achieve meaningful symptom relief, with benefits maintained at one-year and five-year follow-up. It works by retraining the gut-brain axis — reducing visceral hypersensitivity, lowering anticipatory anxiety, and helping the nervous system stop treating normal digestive sensations as threats. The personalised format means every session is built around your specific symptom pattern, not a general IBS script.

Frequently asked questions

Is there clinical evidence that hypnotherapy works for IBS?

Yes. Gut-directed hypnotherapy is one of the most evidence-supported non-pharmaceutical treatments for IBS available. It is recommended as a second-line treatment in both European and North American gastroenterology guidelines. Multiple systematic reviews show meaningful symptom relief in the majority of patients, with results that last. This is not an alternative therapy — it is an evidence-based clinical protocol delivered in a personalised audio format.

Do I need a formal IBS diagnosis to enrol?

We recommend that you have a formal diagnosis from a GP or gastroenterologist before beginning the program. IBS shares symptoms with other gastrointestinal conditions that require different treatment. If you have not had a formal diagnosis but have been managing IBS symptoms for some time, please book a free consult with one of our practitioners before enrolling.

Is this program suitable for IBS-D, IBS-C, and mixed IBS?

Yes. After purchase, your intake form captures your specific IBS subtype and the program is built around it. The imagery, suggestions, and therapeutic focus used in your sessions are calibrated to your subtype. This is one of the key advantages of a personalised program over a generic recording.

What does the week 4 Zoom check-in involve?

A 30-minute Zoom session with your clinical hypnotherapist, included in the program price. This live check-in lets us see how you are going and whether we need to tweak anything in your program. Your practitioner reviews the first four weeks, hears what has shifted and what has not, and shapes the final four sessions accordingly — with a clear focus on which parts of life you most want to reclaim in the second half, such as eating, social situations, travel, or work.

How much time does this take each week?

Plan for approximately 40-45 minutes per week. The main session is about 25-30 minutes and the mid-week reminder is about 15 minutes. Many clients listen to the reminder more than once across the week — it is designed for that.

Can I do this alongside my current diet or medication approach?

Yes. The Norwest Method addresses the psychological and neurological components of IBS and works alongside dietary management, medication, and other approaches. We recommend telling your GP you are starting the program. The program does not provide dietary advice and is not a substitute for medical care.

This is not a physical condition — is hypnotherapy really going to help?

IBS is absolutely a physical condition. The symptoms are real, the pain is real, and the impact on daily life is real. What gut-directed hypnotherapy addresses is the mechanism driving those physical symptoms — the dysregulated communication between the nervous system and the enteric nervous system of the gut. Retraining that communication produces measurable physical changes, not just psychological ones.

What if I want support after the 8 weeks?

An optional follow-up check-in is available after program completion. Mention it to your practitioner at your week 4 Zoom check-in if you would like to discuss ongoing support options.

Eight weeks from now, your gut could stop being the loudest thing in the room.

$497 in full or $67/week for 8 weeks (cancel anytime). Week 4 Zoom check-in included. Personalised to your IBS subtype. Lifetime access to your sessions.
