The Norwest Method — Alcohol

Most people who drink too much do not have a drinking problem. They have a thinking and feeling problem that drinking solves.

Alcohol works. That is the honest truth about why it is so hard to change. It reliably delivers relief, reward, and release. The question is not how to stop doing something that works — it is how to stop needing it. The Norwest Method is an 8-week personalised hypnotherapy program that works on the underlying patterns, not just the behaviour.

Eight weeks. Built around why you drink, not just how much.

The approach
Drinking behaviour is driven by conditioned associations, emotional triggers, and deeply rehearsed patterns of thinking and feeling. Your program is built from your intake form after purchase — the specific situations, emotions, and needs that alcohol has been meeting, and what you actually want your relationship with it to look like.
Best for
People who drink more than they want to and cannot seem to want to stop often enough or strongly enough. People for whom alcohol is stress relief, social lubricant, or the reward at the end of a difficult day. People who are not in crisis but know that something needs to change.
What you walk away with
A genuinely different automatic response to the situations and feelings that have driven your drinking. Not white-knuckling through cravings — a changed relationship with the triggers themselves.

This program is for people who recognise themselves in some of these.

  • You drink more than you plan to, more often than you plan to, and the plan never seems to hold.
  • Certain times of day, certain situations, or certain emotional states reliably lead to drinking in a way that feels less like a choice and more like a pull.
  • You have considered cutting back, tried cutting back, and found that the intention dissolves faster than you expect it to.
  • Alcohol is how you decompress. Without it, the end of the day does not feel like it ends.
  • You do not identify as someone with a serious problem, but you know your drinking is not where you want it to be.
  • The mornings sometimes carry a quiet, low-grade regret that has become familiar enough to ignore.

A program that addresses why the behaviour keeps returning, not just how to stop it.

  1. Complete your intake form after purchaseAfter purchase, you complete an intake form that covers your history with alcohol, the situations and emotions most closely tied to drinking, what alcohol has been providing, and what you actually want your relationship with it to look like. This is the foundation the program is built on.
  2. Receive your personalised sessionsYour first four weekly sessions are written from your intake form. Each is a complete hypnotherapy session delivered as audio — about 25-30 minutes for the main session and 15 minutes for the mid-week reminder. You listen in your own time, in your own space.
  3. Your week 4 Zoom check-inAt the halfway point, you join your clinical hypnotherapist for a 30-minute Zoom check-in session, included in the program price. This live session lets us see how you are going and whether we need to tweak anything in your program. Your practitioner then uses what they learn — what has changed, which situations have been hardest, and what the second half needs to address — to shape the final four sessions around that conversation.
  4. Your final four sessionsSessions five through eight are written after your Zoom check-in. They respond to your actual progress — the patterns that have shifted and the ones still needing work.

What's included

  • 8 personalised weekly hypnotherapy sessions (audio, approximately 25-30 minutes each)
  • 8 mid-week reminder sessions (audio, approximately 15 minutes each) — shorter reinforcement sessions designed to support you through the week's high-risk moments
  • A 30-minute Zoom check-in session at week 4 (included in the program price) — so we can see how you are going and tweak your program if needed
  • Access to your sessions through your secure Norwest Wellbeing member portal
  • Sessions written in the voice of your chosen clinical hypnotherapist — Paul Smith or Rebecca Smith
  • Lifetime access to your session audio
  • Program duration: 8 weeks
  • Total sessions: 16 audio sessions plus one 30-minute Zoom check-in
  • Payment: $497 in full, or $67/week × 8 weeks (cancel anytime)

Why hypnotherapy — and this format

Problematic drinking patterns are largely automatic — triggered by emotional states, social cues, and conditioned associations that operate below the level of conscious intention. This is why deciding to drink less rarely works on its own: the decision happens at one level of the mind while the trigger and the pull happen at another. Hypnotherapy works at the level where the pattern actually lives — changing the emotional associations, dissolving the conditioned responses, and installing a different automatic reaction to the triggers that have reliably led to drinking. The personalised format means the program addresses your specific triggers, not a generic list.

Pricing and enrolment

The Norwest Method Alcohol Program is $497 AUD when you pay for all eight weeks upfront — or you can spread the cost at $67 per week for eight weeks and cancel your weekly plan anytime. Both options include fully personalised sessions, your week 4 Zoom check-in session, and lifetime access to your audio.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to commit to sobriety to do this program?

No. The program is built around your goals, not a prescribed outcome. Some clients want to stop drinking entirely. Others want to drink significantly less, drink differently, or simply stop feeling like alcohol is in charge. After purchase, your intake form captures what you actually want, and the program is built around that.

Is this suitable for alcohol dependency?

This program is designed for people who want to change their relationship with alcohol and whose drinking, while problematic, does not involve physical dependency. If you experience physical withdrawal symptoms when you stop drinking — shaking, sweating, anxiety, or nausea — please speak to your GP before enrolling. Physical alcohol dependency requires medical management. This program is not appropriate as a standalone treatment for that level of dependency.

How is this different from willpower or just deciding to drink less?

Deciding to drink less works on the conscious, intentional level of the mind. The pull to drink operates at a much more automatic level — in the conditioned associations and emotional patterns that fire before the decision is made. Hypnotherapy works on that automatic level. The goal is not to give you more willpower. It is to change the pattern so that willpower is less necessary.

What does the week 4 Zoom check-in involve?

A 30-minute Zoom session with your clinical hypnotherapist, included in the program price. This live check-in lets us see how you are going and whether we need to tweak anything in your program. Your practitioner reviews the first four weeks, hears which situations have been hardest and what has changed, and shapes the final four sessions around what still needs direct attention. Many clients find this check-in is the point at which the program becomes most personal and most useful.

How much time does this take each week?

Plan for approximately 40-45 minutes per week — a 25-30 minute main session and a 15-minute mid-week reminder. The reminder sessions are particularly useful to listen to before high-risk situations: the commute home on a difficult day, before a social event, or at the time of day when the pull is usually strongest.

Do I need to stop drinking while doing the program?

No. The program does not require behavioural change as a condition of participation. The sessions work on the patterns underneath the behaviour. Changes in drinking behaviour typically emerge as those patterns shift, rather than being enforced from the outside.

Is this confidential?

Yes. Your intake form responses and session content are private and handled in accordance with our privacy policy. We do not share your information with third parties, insurers, or employers.

What if I want support after the 8 weeks?

An optional follow-up check-in is available after program completion. Mention it to your practitioner at your week 4 Zoom check-in if you would like to discuss ongoing support options.

The pull does not have to be this strong. That is exactly what this program changes.

$497 in full or $67/week for 8 weeks (cancel anytime). Week 4 Zoom check-in included. Personalised to your patterns. Lifetime access to your sessions.
